England

I'm not a big fan of international football. It tends be lower quality than the Champions League and full of pundits who insist that England and in particular, Wayne Rooney are world class, however much what you are watching contradicts this.

However, I'd just like to point out that Roy Hodgson seems to me to be too susceptible to the media's suggestions. He spent the world cup qualifying trying to build a possession football playing side, then, at the media's suggestion, prior to the world cup, elected to try to play like Liverpool. This is despite the fact that Liverpool play on the break and that the main proponent of Liverpool's title challenge was Luis Suarez - a Uruguayan. To illustrate this point, look at what has happened to Liverpool this season now Suarez has left!

Now, this season, Roy Hodgson, again seemingly because the media suggested it, he has begun playing Jack Wilshere in the holding role to accommodate Jordan Henderson in midfield. IMHO, Henderson is one of the most overrated players in the league. Yes, he has stamina, but lack technique and quality on the ball. Look how poorly he has played this season now Suarez has gone. World Class players make ordinary players like Henderson look better than they are. Hence one of the reasons why Wayne Rooney is not world class. But Jack Wilshere is not a holding midfielder and playing him there is stupid. There's a good chance that he will never be as good as people made out that he would be, but he's not going to improve being played in a position that he's totally unsuited to. He's no Claude Makelele. I should know - how Arsenal could do with a Claude Makelele type player in their team!
