The bottom half of the league is very close this season and there doesn't appear to be much between teams. I don't think Norwich are one of the worst teams in the league, but they don't seem to be able to score as many goals as they should. With the league being so close, luck could be a factor this season. You don't want to start being on the receiving end of bad luck, because these things can go in spells, which could be costly. I think what Norwich need is one of their strikers to go through a purple patch. It could make all the difference at the end of the season. I think Chris Hughton is a good manager and it's nice to see Norwich sticking with him, while other clubs have panicked.

The big test will be against Chelsea on Boxing day which I will be watching on Sky as tickets are all sold out.

Well here it is, 2014 and I was there again on Saturday to see Norwich dominate Sunderland. Robert Snodgrass scored first followed by a 35 yard 65mph rocket from Alex Tettey !
We move up to 13th but are we safe yet?

John 24-03-14 20:06

Id say you are safe!! :-)

Gills lost 1-3...... pretty bad really, now in 14th position in L1

Scary times ahead for Peter taylor I think..

boundngag 31-03-14 21:21

The bottom 3 in the premier league are now 3 points adrift of West Brom in 17th. That includes Sunderland, who seem to have lost their form again after an initial lift when Poyet took over. Relegation looks now like it will only involve teams from Crystal Palace down, which would mean Norwich are probably safe. I could be wrong though.

Gillingham are now 14th in League one, 8 points clear of the relegation zone. Surely you are more or less safe now?

John 02-04-14 10:49

You would hope the Gills are safe but dont count on it. Peter Taylor has said he will resign if they are relegated. I quite like him but he is getting a lot of stick from supporters

boundngag 03-04-14 21:03

Well, I have to say I would be surprised if the Gills were relegated this season now, but you know more about them than I do. Do you know the Gills fans don't like Peter Taylor? I thought he was quite good for Gillingham. It seems to me that Gillingham have trouble attracting managers that I would rate more highly. It's not like it's the back of beyond or anything. It's a club with a large catchment area for fans and therefore potential. It's not like it's Wales, were the main sport is Rugby Union, or Yorkshire where it's Rugby League. It's like football managers don't think people in Kent follow football for some reason. Bizarre.

fawcett 29-04-14 08:30

Norwich looking for a miracle!!

I have got tickets for their last Home game against Arsenal as I fear it will be the last for them in the Premiership!

Despite sacking Chris Hughton their decline continues!

John, I think Gillingham will be ok and stay up.

John 30-04-14 11:41

Fingers crossed for Norwich Fawcett. I hope they manage it.

The Gills are safe. 5 points clear with only one game to go. It's been a struggle this season. Leyton orient, who went up with us last season, are in the playoffs! Funny old game...

fawcett 06-05-14 12:03

Now there's a funny thing !

Our little cat went missing yesterday and so I was doing "house to house". One of the houses I visited that our garden backs onto is in an exclusive Private road and normally has the electric gates closed but they were open.
I was with my 14 year old son and we rung the doorbell.

I had noticed a black Range Rover Sport on the drive with NL plates but thought nothing of it at the time.
The tall lean young guy who answered the door spoke with an accent and was very polite.
When he briefly went back inside my son said "dad that's Ricky Van Wolfswinkel go on ask him"

On his return I did and it was!

Our Cat turned out to be shut in one of his neighbours houses and had wrecked the place! I await the bill!

John 07-05-14 09:03

Excellent story Fawcett! You should have gotten his autograph! :-)

boundngag 11-05-14 19:53

Unfortunately Arsenal beat Norwich today. Sorry about that. I'm quite surprised by Norwich this season. I thought it would be close last season, but this season they seemed to have a better squad and I thought Chris Hughton was a good manager, so Norwich may well have finished lower mid table kind of area. But no. Having said that, I though Fulham would be ok as well! That was a bit odd though, because when Jol always seemed to look pretty unhappy, even at the start of the season and pretty much his whole team underperformed most of the time. Still, maybe Norwich can invest wisely and then come 'Bouncing Back'! AHA!

fawcett 13-05-14 08:27

Norwich 0 Arsenal 2

I was at the match on Sunday and it was a strange atmosphere. The crowd were quiet and any support seemed to be drowned out by the very vocal Arsenal fans singing about going to Wembley!!
At the end , the Norwich players did a lap and I stopped and clapped them waving at Player of the year, Robert Snodgrass. Some young boys were crying.
I really don't know what happened this season although Chris Hughton clearly made some bad decisions on buying players and putting the same predictable squad out time and time again.
It's not all bad though. The tickets will cost me less rather than the £50 (adult) each to see any of the top teams, the new Manager (any predicitions ?) less salary and signings like the £8m Van Wolfswinkel wont happen !
Norwich will lose out on the £2m sky deal however.
It took Norwich 6 years to get back up last time rejoining in 2011, I wish them well.

boundngag 13-05-14 21:51

I think Snodgrass is a good player, Norwich may get some bids for him. I'm surprised by what's happened with Van Wolfswinkel. He seemed like a good player before he joined Norwich, then his confidence seemed to evaporate immediately and never came back! I kept expecting him to improve, but it never happened.

On the plus side, I think the new Premier League T.V deal has kicked in now and so the three relegated clubs will have considerably more income than any previously relegated teams. It should help, but then look at QPR this season. They may go up through the play offs still, but with their squad and budget, they should have walked it. Having said that, I do think Harry Redknapp is a very overrated manager. Hopefully, it wont take Norwich so long to get promoted again this time.

Manager-wise, Malky Mackay seems to be linked to Norwich a lot, having played for you before. He did a pretty good job at Cardiff before the owner got rid of him for little reason. Steve Clarke would be a good bet, too. I think he did a very good job at West Brom and should not have been sacked.

fawcett 15-09-14 11:08

Norwich move up to second in the Championship!

Norwich seem to be doing well so far under Neil Adams and his new players complement the existing squad.
Have only been to one home game so far this season, tickets were cheaper and it was entertaining football....who needs the Premiership ???

John 25-09-14 08:51

Very true Fawcett, often footy from the lower leagues is much better than the premier League stuff :-)

boundngag 20-10-14 20:33

The Championship seems very competitive, Clubs go down with huge parachute payments and don't come straight back up. Good managers can make a difference. Sean Dyche took Burnley up with what was, I think, the smallest transfer budget in the division. Nigel Pearson took Leicester up, albeit with a bigger budget, made good signings and already Leicester look a good bet to stay up. Look how Millwall have improved since Ian Holloway took over. Ipswich have improved each season since Mick McCarthy took over. Wolves, in their first season back in the championship, are 7th. Norwich are 4th and look a good bet to bounce straight back up. I would agree with you, the championship does look more entertaining, unpredictable and competitive than the premier league at present. A bigger bang for your buck. I wish premier league teams would notice this and reduce their ticket prices. Especially Arsenal!

An example of this was when I went to the Bolton match last Saturday.
Tickets were only £25 for adults, half what I paid when Norwich were in the Premiership !!!
Norwich won 2.1 !

That sounds like good value! Looking at the championship table, 1st place - 23rd place are covered by 16 points. I don't think that would ever happen in the premier league! Do you think if Norwich get promoted, the prices will double again?

Yes I do, although on their current form they look unlikely to bounce back up !
Neil Adams faces some challenges this season.

I think it will be tough for Norwich. It's hard for teams that get relegated from the Premier League! Although they don't look likely to struggle as much as Wigan, Bolton and Fulham have this season. The season before last, Wolves got relegated from the championship after being relegated from the premier league. It's hard to go back up, unless you have stacks of money, like QPR. They nearly blew it last season. Although, to be fair, their manager is the criminally overrated Harry Redknapp!

fawcett 16-12-14 18:13

Norwich 5 Huddersfield 0

Was at the match last Saturday and after a goaless first half was disappointed that Norwich had not scored even though Huddersfield were down to ten men!
Then on came Nathan Redmond and it all changed with him scoring one goal and creating two others as he sliced through the defense in the way that only he can!
Norwich have not scored 5 goals in just one half of a match for many years!

boundngag 25-12-14 17:56

Norwich are seventh at Christmas in the championship. Do you think they'll make the play offs this year? The championship seems even closer than usual!

Well Boundngag, I really don't know as it depends on what impact Alex Neil will have. Since he has taken over they had two good wins but lost last Saturday following a questionable penalty awarded for a foul that on replay seemed outside the area!

They are currently eighth.

John 28-01-15 14:05

Gills have managed to climb out of the relegation zone so anything is possible :-) have faith.... is "lets be having you" Delia still calling the shots there? :-)

boundngag 08-02-15 22:46

Gillingham are now 17th in League 1, 7 points off the relegation zone and 5 points off the play offs. Maybe they could mount a late promotion challenge, now they have Justin Edinburgh as manager? Was Peter Taylor really that bad a manager? To think, he once managed England!

Norwich are 7th in the Championship, 3 points off the play offs. It looks like Norwich stand as good a chance as the teams around them of landing a play off spot.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are 6th in the premier league, 2 points off of fourth spot. Given the lame performance against Spurs on Saturday, it could be a struggle to make the top four this season. I was pretty optimistic after we beat Man City too! Last season we won the FA Cup, at the start of this season we signed Alexis Sanchez, we won the Community Shield and yet now it seems we're going backwards again! Until Wenger leaves, guess this is all we can expect.

That's a good question John. Delia is seen regularly in her box but how much influence she now has is questionable.
Her money certainly helps!

fawcett 05-03-15 15:56

Norwich City 0 Wigan 1

After the outstanding performance on Sunday when they won against Ipswich Town by 2 goals I had great hopes for this match.
Boy, was I wrong !
We had superb seats but had to watch a sloppy performance with endless bookings. Yes, the ref and linesman made some questional decisions to the chants of "you don't know what you're doing" and worse !!
If we had won we would have been second but now drop to fifth again.
Why can we not be consistant!

John 05-03-15 17:58

Gill went 9 unbeatedn till last Sat, but won again on Tuesday. From being one point above the relegation zone before Christams, they are now 3 points of the playoffs!

Still, being realistic, I wont hold out too much hope until it looks like a real possibility

boundngag 05-03-15 23:06

Gillingham now look safe from relegation for this season, with an outside of reaching the play offs. It's a good time of the season to come into form! If Gillingham don't make it this season, it looks like they'll have a good chance next season. Justin Edinburgh, despite his dubious playing past, seems to be a good manager. You know, if they make the championship, maybe even I'll start to go. If prices are reasonable, of course!

fawcett 26-05-15 12:46

Norwich bounce back up to Premier League

After their 2 nil defeat of Middleboro at Wembley Stadium Alex Neil has been successful in his quest for Premier League status.
Goals came from Redmond and the leading goal scorer this season, Jerome.
It was a cracking performance by Norwich watching on Sky and I look forward to seeing them play at Carrow Road next season.

boundngag 10-06-15 22:07

Hopefully they will perform well! Norwich seemed to come good towards the end of the season, while the other teams petered out a bit. I think they had one of the best squads in the championship and so maybe they will build on that in the summer transfer window.

Norwich City 0 Sunderland 3

I was at this match on Saturday which Norwich had, in my view, got to win to stay up.
Thrashed 3 nil is not the result I wanted !!

John 19-04-16 18:58

Our team are having an absolute mare at the moment so I feel your pain :-)

boundngag 01-05-16 21:22

It is a shame. Norwich have played well quite often this season. It's actually quite similar to the last time you were in the Premier League. Some clubs are a yo-yo club for a few seasons, before they go on to establish themselves in the Premier League. Of the other teams going down, Aston Villa look quite likely to continue to struggle as their owner still hasn't managed to sell and I think if Newcastle go down and Benitez leaves, then they could struggle as well. So I think Norwich would be in a fairly good position to come straight back up.

fawcett 12-05-16 13:02

Norwich 4 Watford 2

Despite a cracking match last night Norwich are to be relegated from the Premier league AGAIN !!

All too little too late I am afraid!

Don't think Nathan Redmond will hang about in the Championship as he has shown some real talent last night.

Rumour has it that Delia may even sell up !!

John 13-05-16 07:10

Delia selling up???

Lets be Having you....

boundngag 25-05-16 19:32

Maybe you will get another one of the people that attempted to invest in Arsenal, like Moshiri at Everton

fawcett 26-09-16 10:44

NORWICH CITY TOP OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP !!

Yes, here we are again top after some good and not so good matches.
We are certainly scoring the goals as my 13 yr old Niece remarked when I took her to her first ever football match.
She was up and down cheering at every goal and was amazed at all the spectators (around 26500) . She had never seen so many people and was afraid of getting lost as we left the Stadium!
Another fan I think but can we hold onto our place as the season progresses ?
