Inside the sterile confines of the prison office, the guard was queen of her domain. Her focus was on her paperwork, completely oblivious to the inmate in worker's garb who had slipped in behind her. The predator's eyes scanned the desk and found the perfect weapon: a heavy, glass paperweight, cold and solid. With the silent grace of a hunter, she crept forward, raised the weighty object high, and brought it down in a single, sickening thud against the back of the guard's skull. There was no scream, just a choked gasp as the officer's eyes rolled back and she slumped forward, tumbling from her chair to land in a heap on the floor.
The inmate worked with the desperate efficiency of a woman who had nothing to lose. The guard's crisp uniform was torn from her unconscious body, leaving her exposed and vulnerable. Using strips of cloth, the prisoner methodically bound her captive's wrists, then her ankles. A thick cloth gag was stuffed into her mouth and tied tight, ensuring that even if she woke, her authority would be reduced to a muffled, helpless whimper.
As the true guard lay naked and trussed on the floor, the prisoner began her transformation. She shed her inmate's clothes and donned the stolen uniform, piece by powerful piece. The shirt, the trousers, the polished shoes, the heavy belt. When she placed the officer's hat on her head, the metamorphosis was complete. The prisoner was gone. In her place stood a guard, ready to walk past her own cage and out the front gate, leaving the original officer to serve her sentence in a prison of silence and bonds.
