It's noticeable that whereas Annabelle always wore a balaclava in a vain attempt to hide her identity, John has no such quibbles.
A-B wanted to try and avoid the repercussions from her feminist friends who would have abhorred her actions if her identity were ever revealed.
John, on the other hand, couldn't give a monkeys about other peoples opinions and is just pleased that he has found a new hobby which gives him more satisfaction than photography ever did!
